Commander-in-Chief: Firdose Moonda

Firdose is a sports journalist, who started yoga as an extension of her fitness routine and to help with a shoulder injury and immediately felt at home on a mat. 

As a regular runner, who had used pounding the pavement as an exclusive form of exercise for several years, Firdose used yoga stretches to release the hamstrings, hips, quadriceps and glutes but also experienced the benefits of the upper body and core workout the practice provides. And then there was the stillness. Working as a correspondent for a major global sports-news company, Firdose became used to the rush of a breaking story, the routine of rolling coverage and the challenges of months away from home, traveling on a tour. A reporter’s life is exciting and eventful, with long days and late nights and yoga provided a perfect counter.

Yoga Qualifications

Firdose completed her 200 Hour Vinyasa Teacher Training at The Shala in Cape Town in April 2017 and began teaching shortly afterwards. She has taught a range of studio, outdoor, corporate and private classes around South Africa. In February 2018, Firdose obtained a 50 Hour Advanced Training certificate in Bhakti Yoga from Unraveled Yoga. Firdose also holds a qualification as Menu and Meal Planner from Australia’s Cadence Institute. Firdose teaches a Vinyasa-style of yoga, inspired by Oriental, Classical Indian and Hoop dance and yoga mythology, with a focus on correct alignment, breath work and creative flow.
